Sometimes I forget...

At one point in my college career I was a Political Science major. I still find everything about Poli Sci interesting. Im glad I know how to read gallop polls, I am glad I understand different perspectives of the world and that I am a feminist realists. (I could have graduated a year ago with my poli sci degree) As I sit back and even type this blog about my education...I forget how lucky I am to be obtaining an education. Not only am I lucky that my parents can afford to pay for my schooling and that my "life chance" allowed for me to go to college but I am "more" lucky that I am not him....
It is estimated that 300,000 child soldiers fight all over the world. This particular child picture was found with a simple google search of "Rwanda Child Soliders". Do you really believe that this child will live to be 18? (the voting age in Rwanda) I am 20 and have never touched one of these guns. (I do not plan to..infact when the NRA calls my house I hang up)

Rwanda is not the only country with such high numbers. The only reason I used Rwanda is because of the Congo and the Rwanda Genocide. Other countries that have children soldiers: Angola, Burundi, Congo-Brazzaville, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Uganda, Ethiopia, Somalia, Comoros, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal.

I am sad for these children because they will never have the opportunity to be children. Children are easily influenceable, after all I am a democrat because my parents are democrats. Some of my views have changed since leaving the house and being able to think on my own, however, my overall view is still influenced by my parents. Which is exactly what is happening with all of these children.

It is so sad that these children will never go to soccer practice, a basketball game, or play a board game with their friends...and more than likely their parents will never say, "ohh He didn't mean to, He's just a child" So while I don't agree with the United States getting involved in EVERYONE'S world affairs...I do understand how it is hard for us to stand by and watch this...

So before I complain about MY life today..and having to go to school (and by school I mean a University) and that my mother is making me drive 50 minutes so I can get the swine flu vaccine. I should be glad that I have the opportunity to go to school and that the swine flu vaccine is even available to me.

Sometimes I just forget how lucky I am.....

HE DID IT!

For the past six weeks dirtdude has been studying NON-FRIGGIN stop for his Series 7 exam for Edward Jones. You may read about the series 7 here. I suggest not doing since it is sooo boring. Im currently in college studying to be a teacher and I don't think I have ever put the time in like Darrell did for this test. Honestly Dirtdude did you really HAVE to studying for 10 hours a day? Dirtdude tested in a town close to my "second" home so he came up and stayed the night with me. The night before the exam he took me to the movies and surprised me with popcorn and a coke (my favorite)!!! Then to follow that we went to dinner!!! yummm!! I think I was supposed to take him out for all of this but I am so ridiculous poor that you can NOT imagine it....thanks babe. Love you!

The most exciting part about all of this is....WE ARE MOVING!!! yaay!!! Our location of choice for Jones has changed from Charlotte, North Carolina, Indianapolis, Indiana, and now Edwardsville, Illinois! I have already enrolled in SIUE and will actually finish college faster than if I stayed here. I have my own rift towards that school...and that's a later post. As of right now we are hoping to be signed with a lease by next Friday...as in 6 days...mm???

My Mom ordered us a new prettier bedspread. (Dirtdude refused to use my hot pink one from school) I swear our entire house will be red and black......mmmm....I wonder why

His minor love for red and black (and now hot pink not being allowed in my life) will dictate that. My momma could NOT be a bigger help. I am sooo thankful that we have my parents in our life to help us with this move and officially make the transition. I am a little nervous but I know we will be fine........

Ohh the next few days will be soo fun!!!!

babies

As I begin to get older people my age are beginning to have planned children. (keep in mind that I am ONLY 20) However, there are always the few unplanned babies.

My best friend from high school is currently expecting a baby that is due in May. Since college we have went our separate ways and hang out with different people. However, when I heard of her pregnancy I could not help but cry. I cried all the way home from school. I just cried. I knew that she had at least 3 years of school left and that life would just be harder for her than it should be. So as I was sulking and trying to figure out why God would do such a thing to this young beautiful girl I realized something; HB is in fact 20 years old and already more mature than the majority of parents out there. (which in fact means that this is NOT a teenage pregnancy) I also realized that she has more of a support system than most expecting mothers do. (im talking about the planned kind) When it is time for this baby to come I know that she will be the best mommy in the world. After all, being best friends in high school leads to some joint babysitting. :) I am so excited to meet this baby girl or boy. too bad I have to wait until May to do so.

Just call me Martha!!!

So after my grueling history test on Thursday, I decided that Friday I needed to take some time off and do something that I have been dying to do. The strange part about this is that I typically hate this activity. Up until a few months ago an indvidual would actually never see me in this location. Im talking about the kitchen. I absoulty HATE to cook. Nothing about being a house wife (cooking and cleaning) sounds fun to me. In fact part of what attracted me to dirtdude was that he actually likes to cook. So whenever I am dying to c0ok...something is wrong. The dessert I was dying to try make was dessert cake. I actually got the recipe and idea from another blogger. MckMama. Its called Rainbow cake. Go check it out here. My rainbow cake did not turn out quit as pretty but for a first time I am very very very very very very proud of it. (I believe you get the point)

I
I have a few pictures from the experience to send over and i'll take a better picture of the entire cake very soon. Dirtdude also helped me make the cake...so sweet. Thanks dear.

The next event of the day was pumpkin carving!!! I love fall. Its such a fun time of year and so for fun on Friday evening Darrell and I decided (well he watched) to carve pumpkins. Is my pumpkin BEAUTIFUL. Yes, I would agree.

So, from now on...just call me Martha!!!

Did I mention I also just made homemade chicken noodle soup for dirtdude's grandfather...

yep, martha.
